"In Latin America, activity slowed markedly at the
beginning of the year in larger economies, reflecting mainly idiosyncratic
factors," and the drastic effect of the Venezuelan crisis in the region,
the IMF said.
The slowdown in Mexico and Brazil, the deepening of the
crisis in Argentina and Venezuela, and social discontent in Chile and Ecuador
discredited the right-wing models and the left again regains the staff in Latin
America at the ballot box.
After 2018 the region took a right-wing turn with models
that rose to power thanks to discontent with the so-called "Socialism of
the 21st Century", which reinstated with left-wing leaders such as the
late Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, the Ecuadorian Rafael Rafael Correa,
Bolivian Evo Morales, and Argentina's Cristina Fernández; now that trend also
falters.
