UAE Government Launches Blockchain Contest for $ 16,000

In order to encourage the development of blockchain-based applications; the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced the "Social Blockathon" competition.

According to the report; given by the official news agency of the country; The competition will drive the use of blockchain technology for educational, social and recreational purposes.

The call was made by the UAE Ministry of Community Development (MOCD).

The deadline for presentations is February 1, 2020, and the winners will be announced later in the month. Among other criteria; Applicants will be judged for their accuracy, innovation, security, scalability and connectivity.

With this, the country intends to approach its goal of making Dubai, the first "Blockchain City" in the world.

The winners of the contest will receive prizes in fiat currency from the UAE, the dirham (AED).

For the first place winner the prize will be 30,000 AED ($ 8,200). For their part, the second and third place winners will be awarded 20,000 AED ($ 5,400) and 10,000 AED ($ 2,700), respectively.

Blockathon as an initiative

The "Blockathon" is a space that brings together specialists in programming, graphic and interface designers to develop on Blockchain technology.

The teams will work on systems that serve the community and can be applied creatively.
Participants will have to develop these applications in a limited period of time. Nor should they use any predesigned software or applications.

The Blockchain Development Plan

The MOCD seeks to improve social development in the country by striving to meet the objectives of the national development agenda: Emirates Vision 2021.

This agenda; It establishes the key issues for the social and economic development of the UAE. Likewise, it aims to call for a shift towards a knowledge-based economy.
