Five of the world's leading car manufacturers announced that they will begin testing a Blockchain recognition system.

The tests aim to test a new vehicle recognition system based on Blockchain. This would allow drivers to automatically pay parking fees or highway tolls without using cash or cards.

Car manufacturers that will begin testing these in the United States include: Renault, BMW, General Motors, Ford Motor and Honda Motor. The project will be done under the Mobility Open Blockchain Initiative, an international consortium that supports these projects.

Although the proposal seems to be somewhat ambitious, the blockchain has already shown a potential capable of withstanding tough tests and triumphing.

This system assigns digital IDs to individual cars, linked to information such as property and service histories. The data covering the life of the vehicle will be used to recognize cars on the road, which will allow the owner to pay the fees automatically without the need for the specialized labels required in the current electronic toll collection systems.

The group sees that, currently, the Blockchain-based system is used in different areas of the industry. Already connected electric cars, with expenses such as tolls, maintenance and even rest stops that are registered and then paid once when the vehicle is plugged in to charge, are using this technology.

Innovation in the industry

The automotive industry has been characterized by maintaining constant innovation and updating. That is why with the arrival of the blockchain there was not so much problem in conceiving a way of using technology within the industry.

In fact, today the industry has one of the strongest Blockchain initiatives for cooperation between companies, which is further proof of how open they are to innovation.

In addition to the blockchain, car manufacturers have also sought other technologies that can meet the needs of their market. One of the most used is Artificial Intelligence (AI).

For example, BMW is using it to have the car detect when the driver is tired and send warnings about the dangers of driving in these conditions.

The car industry has remained at the forefront of technological advances in recent years. This makes it the best example of the excellent benefits of adopting so-called disruptive technologies, such as AI or Blockchain.
