Its level of detail is unprecedented: it shows how information travels in the brain and how its "cabling" becomes denser or thinner.
The innovative technology to scan the brain and see its internal connections were developed by scientists at the University of Cardiff in the United Kingdom and allows you to see the fibers that carry all thought processes.
Fergus Welsh, a BBC health specialist, underwent the scanner and the images are from his own brain.
The extraordinary thing, explains Welsh, is the ability of this scanner to vary its magnetic field quickly according to the position.
This means that researchers can map the connections - called axons - in such a level of detail that it would take 50 of these fibers to reach the thickness of a human hair.
The method is used to investigate many neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, schizophrenia, dementia, and epilepsy.
Doctors expect it to help better understand neurological diseases and to use it instead of invasive biopsies.
